Hey friends! So, I have to tell you. Ridding my home of toxic chemicals is a journey. I know some people go through their entire homes and chuck everything in a bin to put out to the road all at once, but not me.
No. It’s been a process. I started by replacing a a bunch of personal care items- things like body butters (like my calming orange and vanilla body butter) and skin care products (check out my 3 ingredient calming facial toner) with easy-to-make, essential oil-based ingredients.
Then I moved on to cleaning products. I figured out that I could clean pretty much my entire house with Young Living’s Thieves concentrate ‘cuz it’s AH-MAZING and works on absolutely everything! You can score some of that by going here. I even figured out how to make a DIY “Faux-Breze” Spray that works on everything from gym bags and shin guards to pet stains and stinky man odor. You can get that recipe HERE.
My son came along. We lovingly refer to him as “Hurricane Josiah”. The boy destroys everything in his path. Carpet? Oh yeah. Clothes? You bet. So this mama needed to find an alternative to the toxic stain removing sprays. You know, one that I would feel okay about my kids stepping on (to absorb through those huge pores on their feet), and one that I was cool with spraying on the clothes that rub up against my kiddo’s skin. So the search began.
I’ve tried a few different combos, and by trial and error, I’ve found that this combo works the BEST! What’s awesome is that you can spray it on carpet stains, use it as a pre-treat for clothes, OR you can make it in large quantities and use it as a bleach alternative with your whites!
It’s SO super easy to make. But just to show you how easy it is, I made a quick video just to show you 🙂
For your easy shopping convenience, here are the ingredients I use and where you can get them:
-an 8 oz GLASS spray bottle ( I get mine HERE).
-1 oz unscented castle soap. I like Dr. Bronner’s and I get it HERE.
-3 oz hydrogen peroxide, like THIS.
-4 oz distilled water. I get mine HERE….just kidding 🙂
-10 drops Lemon Essential Oil.
I use Young Living Essential oils. They’re the only kind I use because they’re the bomb. Click HERE to score your lemon essential oil.
Y’all. This stuff works. For carpets, I just spray liberally, let it sit for about 30 minutes, and then gently scrub out with a toothbrush. For clothes, I spray on as soon as possible after the insult occurs 🙂
Listen peeps. This is just one of the MANY uses for lemon essential oil. If you would like to learn more about how I nix the chemicals in my home and by body by using essential oils, you can join my essential oil learning group HERE. I even have a FREE e-mail course that you can sign up for. It’s pretty much exactly what I teach in my live classes, except it comes to your email. You can sign up to receive those emails HERE.
I hope you use and enjoy this recipe for DIY Non-Toxic Stain Remover with Lemon Essential Oil! It works great for my family and it will for yours too!
